ListGlobally Survey of Real Estate Agents Across the World

In April, ListGlobally  polled real estate agents - across the globe - about their experiences and opinions on the global pandemic.

Our goal for this survey was to gather global feedback about the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic in real estate business activities and to gain some perspective on international trends from an 'on the ground' perspective.  The questionnaire was distributed in the third week of April, 2020 which captured the pandemic cycle at different stages, depending on the country. 

Our findings from this survey show some commonalities from both an international perspective, and by country:

Our survey results showed that the majority of global real estate agents are expecting a decrease in their income due to the pandemic. However, there is a percentage that either expect no real salary change, or in fact, expect their income to increase. Maybe they know that it is not all bad news for the industry.

During times of high market volatility, the stability of real estate investments offers some hope to the industry.  Yields still remain at levels that sufficiently reward the real estate investor, according to JLL's whitepaper on COVID-19 and Global Real Estate Implications. Considering these factors, we can expect to see capital continuing to flow into real estate in the medium to long-term time frame.

Length of the Coronavirus Crisis for Real Estate

Compared to only a year ago, our lives and our work have become vastly different today. Some of these changes will become part of our 'new normal.'We polled our agents about how long they thought the market would be in crisis. Here's what they had to say.

The immediate shock of the pandemic is receding and businesses are responding with new tactics, change management plans and innovation. The COVID-19 pandemic will force agents  to concentrate on risk mitigation and resilience and will accelerate trends that were already in place across the sector prior to the pandemic: like, increased online activity and the integration of technology. We can no longer afford to do business as usual and there are changes occurring on a daily basis.

Our survey showed that the majority of real estate agents plan to invest in marketing strategies for the duration of the pandemic. The data also showed that each of the countries polled, plan to spend marketing dollars on the publication of listings on international portals and especially online tools. This is great news, and very wise.

 

Choice of Marketing Strategy During Quarantine

Businesses will not go back to the way we knew before the pandemic.

The real estate industry will reinvent itself to be more resilient and adapt its operational models to the ‘new normal’. Polls, results and data are showing that there is sometimes a disconnect between what is happening in the industry and what agents HOPE will be the outcome.
